Red Bank Tyner Incident

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Tyner Middle High Academy is rolling out stricter safety protocols following the suspension of last Friday’s Red Bank vs. Tyner football game.

The move comes after two minors were arrested and deputies recovered a loaded 9mm magazine during the game at Red Bank High School.

Tyner officials emphasized that no Tyner or Red Bank students were involved in the arrests.

In a nearly four-minute Facebook video posted Tuesday night, Executive Principal Rashaad Williams outlined a series of new security requirements that will apply to all attendees, including visiting fans.

Key Security Measures

  • Clear Bags: Starting October 31, only clear bags will be permitted.
  • Bag Checks & Scans: All spectators must pass through bag checks and will be screened with handheld metal detectors.
  • ID Requirements: State or school identification is required for entry.
  • Age Restrictions: Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or designated adult at least 25 years old. Only three students will be allowed per adult chaperone.
  • No Re-Entry: Anyone who leaves the premises will not be allowed back in.
  • Spectator Conduct: Attendees must remain in the stands except when visiting restrooms or concessions. Smoking, vaping, loitering, and all substances or weapons are strictly prohibited.

Williams said school security will continue working closely with law enforcement, and violators of the rules could face immediate removal. Repeat offenders will be banned entirely.

“Please pay close attention to the announcement we’re making to ensure that everyone has a fun, safe and competitive event when in athletics here at Tyner Middle High Academy,” Williams said.

“The purpose of this plan is to ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, families and community members attending school events.”

The new rules are effective immediately, with the clear bag policy beginning October 31.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident at Red Bank.
