Tyner Falls to Union City 27-21 in Double Overtime in 2A State Title Game

Cookeville, TN-(WDEF) Tyner’s bid for their second state championship came up short on Friday as they lost to Union City 27-21 in double overtime
in Cookeville.
The Golden Tornadoes dominated the game on the ground rushing for 323 yards, and they didn’t attempt a single pass.
Union City scored on their opening drive.
A three yard run from Trey Jones to make it 7-0.
Union City QB Braxton Waddell scored on the first play of the second quarter.
An 11 yard TD run to make it 14-0.
Tyner got on the board moments later on a 33 yard run from Jeremy Elston.
PAT was blocked so it was 14-6.
The Golden Tornadoes played keep away with their ground attack all day.
They held the ball for 33 minutes compared to 15 minutes for Tyner.
The Rams defense kept Union City off the scoreboard the entire second half.
Then with 14 seconds left in the game and Tyner still down 14-6, Rams QB Jaylen Bowens hit Jeremiah Batiste on a 33 yard touchdown pass.
A two point try tied the game and forced overtime.
Union City scored on their first possession of overtime with a two yard run from Jones to make it 21-14.
Tyner answered with a seven yard TD pass from Bowens to Elston to make it 21 all.
On Tyner’s first possession of double OT, Bowens was intercepted in the end zone.
Waddell then scored on a ten yard run to seal the 27-21 victory in double overtime.
