U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Ready For Match in Small Town Like Chattanooga
Chattanooga-(WDEF) Barely a month after capturing the World Cup, and the U-S Women’s soccer team is set to play right here in Chattanooga. The team met with the media on Tuesday afternoon, and held an open practice session ahead of their exhibition game Wednesday night against Costa Rica.
After the thrill and emotion of winning the World Cup, the U-S Women’s soccer team is enjoying the change of pace on their exhibition tour.
Said player Alex Morgan,"I feel like this is a time where we can really enjoy each others company and know that because a lot of players are retiring after this Victory Tour, it’s a time for us to just enjoy each other and have fun out on the field. Support each other and celebrate with our fans."
Said goalie Hope Solo,"It’s a chance for us to say thank you for supporting us on an incredible, but very long journey. We’re happy to be back domestically to play in front of our fans and not in front of the Canadians as much, but here in America in front of our fans."
And the women are excited to play an exhibition match in a small town like Chattanooga."
Said veteran player Abby Wambach,"Coming to Chattanooga. It’s exciting. It’s a small town. We want to be able to reach out and inspire even the fans from the small towns. I’m from a small town, so I get it. It’s really exciting. It’s a sold-out crowd. It’s going to be a special night tomorrow night."
Said head coach Jill Ellis,"U.S. Soccer’s philosophy is to try and leave a big foot print, and that means to get around to as many communities and cities and states as possible. So that people can connect with us and certainly we can continue to grow the game."
The U.S. Women’s team will wear black arm bands in remembrance of the tragic shootings last month in Chattanooga.
