Update: Chattanooga Police investigate double shooting

Update: Chattanooga Police say the shooting Friday started with a drug deal.

The arrest affidavit reports that Chattanooga Police were dispatched to the Economy Inn Friday to room 219. Police found Henry Bennett and Delvon White suffering from multiple gunshot wounds upon arrival.

Savannah Parsons, a witness to the incident, told police she was in the hotel room at the time of the shooting. She said that 28-year-old Corey Greer entered the room to make a drug deal with Bennett but then attempted to rob him in the process. Parsons then told police a fight broke out and led to 15 to 20 shots fired and that’s when Greer fled the scene on foot.

Officials said Greer was observed getting into a Nissan Altima with 26-year-old Brandon Robinson to flee the scene. After Police located the Altima, Robinson evaded police and engaged them in a pursuit. The arrest affidavit states that the pursuit ended at 3500 Ohls Ave. at which point Robinson and Greer attempted to flee on foot. Police say both men were apprehended.

Robinson is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Especially Aggravated Robbery Felony Evading Arrest, while Greer is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder.

After doing a background check, WDEF uncovered that Robinson has an extensive arrest record, dealing with drugs and Greer was arrested back in 2007 for an illegal weapon.

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – There have been more than 50 shooting incidents in Chattanooga this year, but police made quick work of a double shooting around noon Friday. The shooting was followed by a chase across town and the subsequent arrest of two suspects.

We have two reports.
Was it gang related? How many people were actually involved? Who are they?
A lot of questions remain tonight and Chattanooga Police cleared up some of the details.

There was a midday shooting at 5505 Brainerd Road at a motel with no markings that was once a Quality In.

The incident happened in room 219 on the second floor, and two people ended up with gunshot wounds.
Here’s what one eye-witness told us.

"All of a sudden we see a guy running, limping and screaming, first we thought he stole something but that wasn’t the case. Next thing you know we see another guy come out in socks chasing him down," said Brian Hawkins of Chattanooga.

Brian Hawkins said he and his co-workers never heard any gunshots, but two people were taken for treatment.

"As of right now they are both being treated at local hospitals ..it did not appear as thought the injuries were life-threatening…however any gunshot wound is serious..they are being treated currently ..but it does not appear as though they are life threatening," said David Roddy, Deputy Chief for Chattanooga Police Department.

Police have not explained the arrest of a young woman who was taken away in handcuffs from the second floor of the motel.

"That’s what they’re still trying to sort through. Whenever you have anyone who’s a potential victim, suspect, witness….some connection ..when there’s a room connected to another room…that’s what all our investigators are working diligently right now to try and work their way through," said David Roddy.

The motel was sealed off for a time while the noon hour incident was being investigated, but another drama was taking place elsewhere.
