Update on suspected rapist charged in the I 75 chase and crash Wednesday afternoon
NASHVILLE (WDEF) – Investigators now say the entire incident started on Facebook, where Cordarius Caldwell from Nashville met a 20 year old woman who he brought to a home in Nashville overnight on Tuesday.
They say he then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint.
Neighbors called police when they heard screams.
Police say Caldwell got away on foot, stole a car and led police on a high speed chase through Nashville that topped a hundred miles an hour.
Officers eventually broke off the chase because of the high speeds.
Troopers spotted Caldwell in the stolen vehicle in Coffee County, where the chase resumed.
The Highway Patrol reports he hit and damaged 15 vehicles on I 24 on his way to Chattanooga.
One of those belonged to a Highway patrolman who was injured in the crash.
Troopers report he was treated at the emergency room, but have not updated his condition.
Caldwell was finally captured after crashing on I 24 near the Moore Road exit.
