UPDATE: Salvation Army housing help for former Superior Creek Lodge residents

UPDATE: Salvation Army officials say thanks to the Community Foundation grant 41 family units are being housed at 4 local motels.

They will have housing through Monday.

On Monday, they can go to the Joint Information Center for more help.

More than $15,000 was paid for the rooms Thursday night.

Ten live in staff and their families lost their jobs and homes when the Superior Creek Lodge was condemned.

They now have a place to stay for a week.

East Ridge United Methodist is housing 31 people, and Spring Creek Baptist has 4 families.

East Ridge, TN (WDEF) – East Ridge officials have condemned all the Superior Creek Lodge buildings.

The Salvation Army say nearly 1,500 people now need a place to stay.

Representatives of 11 Chattanooga-based social service agencies and representatives of the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County met at The Salvation Army Thursday afternoon to talk about how to help more than 300 families.

At least two East Ridge churches have stepped in to provide shelter for up to 50 families and children.

These agencies are exploring more options.

Metropolitan Ministries got a grant from the Community Foundation for some local hotel stays.

It’s working with the Salvation Army and City of East Ridge to find 50 available rooms at different hotels.

There will be a Joint Information Center open on Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Ridge United Methodist Church at 1601 Prater Road. 

Officials say for people still in need to call the United Way of Greater Chattanooga at 2-1-1.
