UPDATE: Toddler discovered shot in head on Christmas morning survives, is in critical condition
UPDATE: The 2-year-old who was found with a gunshot wound to the head on Christmas has survived surgery and is in critical condition, according to Sheriff Steve Wilson.
The investigation reveals the father returned home late on Christmas Eve and placed his 9mm handgun on the nightstand beside the bed.
Christmas morning shortly after the children were out of bed, the father was in another room dressing the infant child when he heard a “pop” noise from the bedroom, according to Wilson.
The father found the toddler crying and bleeding with a wound to the head.
The infant child has been placed with relatives.
No charges have been made at this time.
WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – The Walker County Sheriff’s Office and the G.B.I. responded to a scene of a Christmas morning shooting which involved a two year old victim.
Deputies were dispatched to Tarvin Rd., Rock Spring, GA at 9:50 a.m., Christmas morning.
Upon arrival, deputies and E.M.S. discovered a toddler had a gunshot wound to the head.
The child was rushed to a hospital in Chattanooga.
According to the Sheriff, the child’s father and an infant child were at the home at the time of the shooting.
The father was tending to the infant child when the shooting happened.
The Walker County Department of Family and Children’s Services is assisting with the investigation.
News 12 has not heard yet on the condition of the toddler.
