UPDATE: Triple Shooting in Athens

Saturday afternoon at about 4:10, Athens police officers responded to Starr Regional Medical Center.

Two men came into the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Reports say 40-year-old Rendell Cory Jones was pronounced dead shortly after arriving and 47-year-old Tim White was airlifted to Erlanger.

37-year-old Matthew Moore was also shot and was airlifted to UT Medical Center where neighbors said he later died.

"When I was coming home I guess it was around 5, 5:30 something like that there was a bunch of police officers on the road stopping traffic and they didn’t have any sirens on so I was kind of curious to what was going on," said Nate Hall who lives nearby the home on Lime Street. "Shortly after that my neighbor said there had been a shooting here and three people had gotten hit."

Neighbors of the home on 101 Lime Street where the shooting took place say it was a scuffle between the three men when they began shooting amongst themselves.

"They just got in a big fight and three people got shot down," said Leroy Jackson who lives across the street.

The triple shooting has rocked this quiet neighborhood where flowers hang from porches and kids are playing in driveways.

"This neighborhood is just like it is now," said Jackson. "It’s quiet. Then this pops up. One block away, half a block away."

"It’s a little concerning," said Hall. "I’ve got a six year old over there. Stuff like this happened in broad daylight. You never know what you can do to protect your kids. It’s a shocker. You never really think anything like that’s going to happen around here but from what we see that happened in Chattanooga, it could happen anywhere."

The TBI and the Athens Police Department are taking over the investigation and News 12 will keep you updated with new developments.
