USPS Truck Crashed in Lookout Valley

Postal truck flips over into creek, spilling mail and packages

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A US Postal Service truck lost control earlier today and crashed on Browns Ferry Road and Highwater Trail.

The vehicle ran off the road and landed upside down in a creek bed, spilling it’s mail and packages everywhere.

Christian Robinson witnessed the crash, as it happened on his property. “I was just sitting on my porch when I heard like a loud boom, and then next thing I know, I come around the little corner and I see a mailbox truck in the garbage can. I was kind of confused,” Robinson said.

Chattanooga Fire Department along with the CPD responded to the crash and extracted the driver from his vehicle.

The driver is said to have minor injuries.

News 12 spoke with Special Operations Lieutenant Chadd Nichols about the crash. “All we know is that we had a US mail truck that had lost control and wrecked and wound up in the creek behind me. The driver was extricated with no issues,” Nichols said.

The mail truck had a small fluid leak, but crews have since controlled the spill.

United States Postal Service had authority over the crash and sent representatives to the scene.

Right now we don’t know what caused the wreck, but icy roads are suspected.
