UT Athletic Dept. Settles Longstanding Lawsuit By Female Employees

Knoxville (WDEF) – The University of Tennessee has settled a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed by three former female employees.

The plaintiffs were Former associate director of sports medicine Jenny Moshak, and Lady Vols strength coaches Heather Mason and Collins Schollser.

They filed a pay discrimination complaint in 2010 and then a lawsuit two years later.

The settlement is a total of $750,000 for the three, plus attorneys’ fees.

In a statement, UT officials say "The University believed that settling this matter at this time was in the best long-term interest of the University. The University unequivocally denies that any of the three former employees suffered any discrimination or retaliation. The settlement is not an admission of liability or any wrongdoing by the University."

The settlement will be paid from Athletic Department revenues, instead of state tax dollars, student tuition or donor gifts.
