UT System will launch Grand Challenge initiative for Tennessee
KNOXVILLE (WDEF) – University of Tennessee System President laid out his vision for the five universities in the system, including UTC, this morning.
He identified Three Grand Challenges for the state that he thinks the universities can help tackle.
Later this spring, he will unveil a “Challenge Grant” program to harness ideas with the university system.
The issues are substance abuse, rural decline, and K thru 12 education.
“Will you join us? It will take experts from a myriad of areas working together to straighten what has been snarled. While connecting as a university system and as Tennesseans, these grand challenges won’t be insurmountable. Solving them will lie somewhere between the probable and the impossible. With innovation, imagination, and determination I am confident we can get there.”
