UTC Police Department Hosts Cell Phone Charity Drive

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – UTC’s Police Department is holding a cell phone drive next week for survivors of relationship abuse.

The school’s police department is partnering with the 911 Cell Phone Bank and the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults.

The charity drive starts the 23rd and lasts until the 28th.

They are collecting all small electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Chief of Police Robert Ratchford says survivors might not have access to their personal electronics. He says, “They have no way to contact anybody as far as family, police, anything. So that’s why we want to provide a means to where they can make contact with whomever they need to reach out to.”

The school’s police department is also partnering with the UTC’s women’s basketball team for the donation drive.

There are two home games next week, January 26th and January 28th, where police personnel will be inside McKenzie Arena to collect donated devices.

People wishing to donate who cannot make it to the games can drop off the electronic devices at the donation collection box in the UTC Police Department front lobby at 400 Palmetto Street.
