UTC welcomes international students from eighteen countries
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga welcomed 22 students from 18 countries, who will study at the university for the next four weeks.
Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke joined UTC’s College of Business and Center for Global Education who hosted the welcome reception.
All of those participating are considered student leaders in their respective countries.
UTC is one of only 3 universities in the country chosen to take in the program.
Takeo Suzuki is the executive director of the UTC Center for Global Education.
Suzuki says, “Our mission in my office is to put Chattanooga on the world map. We want Chattanooga to be the center and epic of entrepreneurs. So this 22 entrepreneurs from Europe will help us to expand the brand name in image of Chattanooga across Europe.”
Briyandan Baheerathan is with Young Sustainable Impacts out of Oslo, Norway.
He says, “So back in Norway I started it, and cofounded an innovation program called Young Sustainable Impacts. We are focused on bringing 25 of you every summer to Oslo to create sustainable solutions. So I want to create a better platform so that it will have an impact in our society. And that’s why I wanted to participate in this program.”
The program includes classroom lectures, hands-on activities, and interactions with Americans both on UTC’s campus, and throughout Chattanooga.
