Vacant fire station to be renovated in Walker County
WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF)- A vacant fire station in Walker County will soon be getting renovations.
The Walker County Commission voted to approve a project that will make Walker County Fire Station 4 usable for first responders.
It is located in the Hinkle community on Lookout Mountain off of Lula Lake Road.
It has been vacant for a decade even after it was constructed in 2015.
Walker County says that they now finally have what they need in place to make the fire station functional.
One resident told the Commission, “Hinkle has been there 10 years. (This process) seems slow to me.”
Commissioner Gene Wilson said in response, “The question was raised why did that not move forward? Well the county was also trying to get a federal grant for emergency power for emergency service buildings. The Grant just got approved.”
The project cost for the renovations, alongside the installation of a sprinkler system and generator is just north of $500,000.
These funds come from previously generated SPLOST revenue.
