Vacant home destroyed in fire

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Chattanooga firefighters responded to a vacant house fire at around 6:30 Saturday night at 5406 Dorsey Street. Captain Scott McCullough said there was heavy smoke and fire visible when firefighters first arrived on the scene.

The firefighters initially forced their way in through the front door to try an interior attack, but the heat was extreme and the conditions were too dangerous, so Lt. Darryl Hom ordered everyone out and to transition to a defensive operation. Captain McCullough said it took the firefighters roughly 20 minutes to get the blaze under control.

The fire caused extensive damage to the house, with the dollar loss estimated at $40,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
