Valdosta Beats Dalton 27-6 in Class 6A Semifinal Playoff Game

Dalton, GA (WDEF) – Special teams proved costly for top ranked Dalton on Friday night at Harmon Field, as they lost 27-6 to second ranked Valdosta in the semifinals of the 6A state playoffs.

With no score in the second quarter, the Catamounts Kyric McGowan fumbled a punt. The Wildcats recovered the ball at the Dalton 28.

Few plays later, Josh Belton hit Devonnsha Maxwell for a 20-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.
Neither team had a hundred yards of offense at halftime.

Dalton experienced more special teams bad luck to start the third quarter.

With McGowan set to receive the punt, the ball bounced off one of his teammates, and Valdosta recovered near the Catamounts 40.

Belton then hit Jontae Baker on a 29-yard touchdown toss over the middle to make it 14-0.

Belton added a 20-yard touchdown pass to J.R. Ingram on the Wildcats next series to make it 21-0.

To start the fourth quarter, Dalton had a fourth down at the Valdosta 19, and they went for it.

J.P. Tighe hit McGowan on a short pass, and McGown then flipped the ball to Ahmaad Tanner.

The hook and ladder play worked for a 19-yard touchdown to make it 21-6.

Dalton was near the red zone on their next series when Tighe got hurt and left the game.

The Wildcats tacked on one more late touchdown to win it 27-6.
