Validated gang member and two others arrested after high speed chase at Chattanooga Airport
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) — A validated member of the Gangster Disciples is behind bars after allegedly committing armed robbery and leading local and federal law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase outside the Chattanooga Airport.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, Anthony George, 21, of Chattanooga committed a robbery in the 2400 block of Kirby Avenue Friday afternoon.
Information was given to police that during the robbery, he was driving a white Chrysler 300 with a Florida license plate.
U.S. Marshals observed a vehicle fitting that description at the Greyhound Bus station on Airport Road.
The Marshals followed the car leaving the parking lot and attempted to initiate a traffic stop when in the 1100 block of Airport Connector Road. Instead of stopping, the car reportedly accelerated and led Marshals on a high speed chase.
Another Marshals vehicle attempted to block the path of the speeding car but rammed the law enforcement vehicle and proceeded forward.
According to federal law enforcement officials, the Chrysler continued to evade police cars and even rammed through a parking lot gate and continued to drive on. The car struck two other parked vehicles in the parking lot and at some point rammed a police car.
According to Chattanooga police, George led multiple law enforcement cars on a high speed chase away from the airport onto Chickamauga Avenue and East Brainerd where his car eventually wrecked.
Three people in the Chrysler reportedly got out and ran from the wreckage. All three were taken into custody.
They have been identified Anthony George, 21, of Chattanooga, Perry Thomas and Darious Woods,20.
Police found two firearms in the car. One of those firearms was reported stolen.
All three suspects are facing a laundry list of felony charges.
George’s bond was set at $295,000.
Perry is being held without bond and there is no word on what has been set for Woods.
