Vehicle Drives Off Side of Sand Mountain
DADE COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – A 27-year-old man was taken by Life Force to a local hospital Wednesday morning after his car went over the side of Sand Mountain along Highway 301 across from District Line Road, according to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the call came in around 8:37 a.m. reporting a vehicle that had left the roadway and plunged down the mountain.
Multiple first responders and law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene.
Sheriff deputies say the man was the only one involved in the crash.
First responders say the outcome could have been far worse if a witness hadn’t seen the vehicle go off the mountain and immediately called 911.
Chad Payne, Dade County Sheriff, was on scene and told News 12 “for the gentleman that went off Bluff it’s very important because of where he was the very likelihood that nobody would’ve found him. You know if he would’ve been in a position where he would’ve not been in stable condition. It could’ve turned really bad.”
This was the second serious incident of the morning for Dade County first responders, who had already been working a wrong-way fatal crash on Interstate 24 just a few hours earlier.
The sheriff’s office says more information will be released as the investigation continues.
