The child has been reunited with their family

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — On Monday morning, a person stole a vehicle with a child inside in Downtown Chattanooga. Police say the vehicle was crashed, and the child was returned to their family. There is still no information about the suspect, according to police.

The car was stolen on the 2000 block of E. Main St. in Chattanooga at around 10 a.m., the CPD said.

The driver told the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) that she went into a convenience store and left the car running. She said her granddaughter was sleeping in the car. When she left the store, her car was gone.

Police say they located the vehicle later at the Volkswagen exit near I-75. They say the vehicle was crashed and disabled.

The CPD said the child was located and unharmed.

The child is back with their family, CPD said.

The investigation is ongoing.
