Volkswagen Employees Vote Yes to UAW Representation
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)-Skilled trade workers at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant voted yes to representation by United Auto Workers.
The vote came after the UAW lost a vote among hourly workers last year. It was then the 165 skilled trade worker chose to hold their own election.
152 votes were cast Friday night with 108 voting yes and 44 voting no.
VW officials said in a press release that they respect the rights of their employees to decide, but the company feels a union of only maintenance workers splits the workforce.
It plans to appeal to the NLRB.
However, officials say they will remain committed to Tennessee whatever the outcome.
