Vols Coach Jeremy Pruitt Recalls Embarrassing Recruiting Story of A.J. McCarron at Alabama
Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt was in Charlotte Thursday along with West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen. They were promoting their football game on September first in the Belk Bowl College Kickoff. During a press conference, Pruitt recalled an embarrassing recruiting story at Alabama, when he was scouting the home of quarterback A.J. McCarron in Mobile.
Said Pruitt:”So I’m on the phone with Jim McElwain. I’m on the phone with Joe Pendry. Coach (Nick) Saban. Saying you know, Tennessee has not been in here. LSU has not been here. We’re good coach. We’re good. So on Thursday night, we are going to have a home visit . We are going to bring them all in there. So I pick them up at the airport. We roll out there to the house. I take them right to the house, and I knock on the door. And this little old lady comes to the door. I kind of look at her. I said is this not A.J. McCarron’s house? She said no sir. A.J. lives three houses down.” (laughter)
Said media moderator:”That’s a great story. (Looking at West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen) You got anything that will top that?”
Said Holgorsen:”Nope.” (laughter)
