Vols Derek Barnett Seeking Consistency And Not Recognition
Vols linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin was asked Monday about Tennessee’s number nine preseason ranking in the Associated Press Poll.
He responded by saying the only number nine he cared about was teammate Derek Barnett.
Barnett of course wears number nine, and he wears out opposing offensive linemen.
Last season Barnett led Tennessee with ten sacks.
He’s expected to anchor a strong defensive line this fall.
Barnett may not get mentioned as much as some of the other top defensive linemen in the SEC, and that’s just fine with him.
Reporter-“Do you consider yourself underrated in that regard?”
Said Barnett-“No. I don’t pay any attention to it. I just try to get better every day I come here to this building. Focus on my craft and my team.”
Reporter-“What are some of the goals you have set for yourself this year?”
Said Barnett-“I would say consistency on get-offs. Understand my drops better and being the most dominant player I can be.”
