Vols Hope to Fix Turnover Issue Ahead of Showdown With Top Ranked Alabama
Who needs the presidential debate when you have the orange and red debate.
Tennessee and Alabama renew their annual rivalry this weekend.
The Vols have maintained their number nine ranking in the AP poll, despite their recent overtime loss to Texas A&M.
Reporter:You didn’t watch the debate?”
Said Vols head coach Butch Jones:”No. I was cringing watching Alabama.”
Coach Jones was also cringing watching the replay of his team’s seven turnovers in their loss to Texas A&M.
Said Jones:”When I look at the turnovers, it’s individuals fighting for extra yards. It’s individuals trying to make plays.”
Added tight end Ehtan Wolf:”Every day in practice we do what is called a maxim one period. And that’s all about ball security, so we can’t blame the coaches by any means.”
Said Jones:”We’ll practice it every single day, but Alabama is very opportunistic. They do a great job of hunting the football.”
Alabama has ten non-offensive touchdowns this season.
Their defense recorded two touchdowns against Arkansas.
Said Jones:”I think this is the best Alabama team we’ve faced since we’ve been here. It’s the best secondary in terms of what we concern ourselves of any Alabama team we’ve faced since we’ve been here.”
Tennessee nearly upset the Tide last season, and they’re ready to get Bama on Rocky Top.
Said Wolf: “I think since the day that I came in here that nobody really is scared of Alabama or thought that we weren’t as good.”
Said defensive lineman LaTroy Lewis:”I think a lot of times people get intimidated by certain teams. For us, it’s just another nameless and faceless opponent.”
Faceless opponent might be a bit of a stretch for the nation’s top ranked team.
Said Jones: “With their program, every game is important because every where they go, they’re Alabama. That’s something we talk to our players now where we’re in. We’ve created a reputation for ourselves now. That’s a great responsibility to play your best week in and week out. Alabama does it with the best of anyone I have ever seen, and that’s tribute to what they’ve built in Tuscaloosa.”
Bama and Tennessee kick at 3:30pm on Saturday. The game will be televised on News 12 Now, and it will be streaming on our web page at wdef.com.
