Vols Look to Take Command of SEC East With Win Over Rival Georgia
With a win over Florida under their belt, Tennessee can really put themselves in the driver’s seat in the SEC East, if they can get past another key, division rival on Saturday in the Georgia Bulldogs.
Rocky Top felt a little rocky for the Vols and Butch Jones after falling behind 21-0 to Florida. They were booed at halftime before rallying for a 38-28 victory.
Said Jones-“I know there are a lot of people that didn’t want me here at halftime. I get that. That’s part of the job. Love is conditional. What more can you say. You want to coach at a place that’s passionate and loves their institution and loves their football team, and there’s no better place than Tennessee.”
But it’s never easy to feel at home on the road in the SEC, even when you visit a wounded bunch of bulldogs.
Said Vols defensive lineman Derek Barnett-“Yeah, I expect them to come out swinging. I think we’re going to get their best shot.”
Said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart-“You’ve got to move on. Like I said, humility is a week away when you play a team like Tennessee. They better get over it quick because they’ve got to go out and compete and get ready for a physical, tough game.”
Added Georgia running back Brendan Douglas-“I think we can bounce back for sure. My senior year in high school. Georgia lost to South Carolina. They kind of got blown out. They still ended up winning the East, so you really never know.”
For Georgia to bounce back, they’ll need a big bounce in the trenches against Tennessee.
Said Smart-“But the offensive and defensive lines. He has built the program around that. They’ve got a core group of offensive linemen. I don’t know how many starts those guys have. I swear they have like 13 returning starters on offense.”
Reporter-“What challenges does Derek Barnett present and how do you game plan for him.”
Said Smart-“Well first of all, he’s a phenomenal athlete, and he’s big. It’s really not easy to game plan because they can move him around.”
