Vols Not Overlooking App State in Their Season Opener
For all the talk about the Battle of Bristol between Tennessee and Virginia Tech, it’s easy to forget that the Vols actually open their season Thursday night against App State.
Head coach Butch Jones has been stressing the importance of not to overlooking the Mountaineers.
App State is a former FCS power made the jump to Division One football.
They won eleven games last season, setting a new record for victories by a team in their first season as an FBS team.
They also became the first team to win a bowl game in their initial season as a full-fledged FBS team.
Said Jones,”Playing a great quality opponent in App state. 11-2 last year. Have won 17 of their last 19 contests. Their players know what it takes to win.”
Said Vols defensive back Cam Sutton-“From an offensive standpoint, they have a great quarterback. Great leader. Does the little things with the ball as well as without the ball.”
Said App State linebacker John Law-“Anytime you get a chance to play against a quote-unquote bigger school, it’s always a great feeling playing. For guys like me and some of the other guys it’s kind of a chance to say hey, I could have played at that level.”
The Vols and Mountaineers kick at 7:30pm on Thursday.
