Vols Ready to Play Football Game at Bristol Motor Speedway
Gentlemen. Start your engines.
Because it’s football time at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
Tennessee and Virginia Tech will play their long-awaited football game this Saturday at one of the most famous race tracks in NASCAR.
The transformation is nearly complete at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
The famous short track now looks like a football stadium.
Said head coach Jones-“We’re excited. The Battle at Bristol. Great, great opportunity. It has been a long time in the making. Lot of behind the scenes work that has gone on.”
What has Coach Jones and the Vols excited is the chance to play in front of more than 150-thousand fans, which will be a new college football record.
Said Jones-“You know the opportunity that our football team has had in their first two games. They will have competed in front of over 250-thousand people in the stands. That’s the power of Tennessee.”
While it’s called the Battle at Bristol, the real battle for Tennessee is Virginia Tech.
Said quarterback Josh Dobbs-“If we are more focused about the environment than actual football itself then we won’t come out on top. We have to be locked in to the game plan.”
Said linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin-“It’s going to be a little bit different. We know we have to tune that out as much as we can. Just focus on the 100-yards of green that’s going to be out there. That’s all that we can really control.”
Said Jones-“We can’t get caught up in any of the extracurricular items out there. It all comes down to playing winning football.”
Since Bristol is not a football stadium, the Vols coaches have already addressed any communication concerns.
Said Jones-“We actually took a trip as a coaching staff this summer and went down there to check out the press box and really stress the communicative end of things. I don’t see that being an issue.”
