Vols Try to Regroup After Tough Loss to Gators
There are tough losses, and then there’s Tennessee’s loss to Florida. The Vols appeared to have the game in hand in the fourth quarter, but they wound up leaving the Swamp with their 11th straight defeat to the Gators.
Fourth and 14 for the Gators, less than two minutes to play, and Tennessee gave up a 63-yard touchdown pass that led to Florida’s 28-27 victory.
Said head coach Butch Jones-"I thought we played well enough to win the football game. Comes down again to closing games out, which we are all aware of. We had many opportunities to do that."
The ending at Florida was similar to the one against Oklahoma, where Tennessee blew a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter and lost in double overtime.
Said Jones-"We’re two plays away and 10 seconds away from being 4-0, and we’re 2-2. Football is a strange game. It has a way of equaling itself out. We’ll win our share of games in the fourth quarter as well, but we just need to stay positive."
Added quarterback Josh Dobbs,-"Obviously losing a game like that is a tough loss as we all know. Team is still positive. Team still understands the snap and clear mentality."
For now, all the Vols can do is regroup and get ready for Arkansas.
Jones-"So you have to take the emotion, and you have to remove yourself. You have to go in a quiet room or think tank and revisit everything and kind of see where you are going. I’ve never been through anything like this or our players in terms of this. Football rewards diligence. Football rewards those individuals who persevere. The only thing I can say is keep working."
The Vols and Arkansas will kick at 7pm Saturday on ESPN2. Tennessee’s home game the following week against Georgia will kick at 3:30pm on WDEF News 12.
