Vote on South Broad Stadium Delayed

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The South Broad District will have to wait another week for full approval.

Tuesday night, the Chattanooga City Council elected to defer a vote on the project for another week.

Wednesday morning, the Hamilton County Commission elected to do the same.

The need for a new vote arose after an increase in the stadium’s price tag to $112 million dollars, requiring a $32 million dollar loan from city and county taxes.

Hamilton County Deputy Mayor Cory Gearrin explained they are still in negotiations.

He said, “We’ve had a really productive two weeks, partnering with the city. In conversations with the private parties, this was a joint decision over the weekend, the city and county, in conversations deciding, with our partners on the private side to have a little more time.”

Tentatively, both bodies plan to vote on this project next week.
