Voter turnout hovers above 10% for May 5 county primary election

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Voter turnout hovered just above 10% in the May 5th County Primary Election, according to the Hamilton County Election Commission.

They say 22,480 total ballots were cast from 216,060 total registered Hamilton County voters across six Early Voting sites, absentee, and on Election Day, which marks a 10.4% voter turnout.

Hamilton County Election Commissioners will meet on May 20th to certify the results and make them official.

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Election Commission and our outstanding poll workers, whose commitment and professionalism were instrumental in
delivering a successful Election Day,”

– said Hamilton County Elections Administrator Scott Allen.

Attention now turns to the August 6th State & Federal Primary and County General election. They say the voter registration deadline is set for July 7th, and the Early Voting period runs from July 17th through August 1st.

Voters may also request an absentee ballot beginning Friday, May 8th, with the last day to request a ballot set for Monday, July 27th.
