W Road to reopen Friday following rockslide

UPDATE:

The Hamilton County mayor’s office announced the W Road will reopen on Friday by noon.

Crews have cleared all the rockslide debris.

Government officials said the road is now safe to travel.

However, the Highway Department is working to design a final stabilization plan. Once that plan is approved, they will re-close the W Road to make final upgrades to the rockslide area.

W Road. HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Highway officials have closed the W Road to drivers until further notice.

On Sunday morning, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office announced the closure of the road.

The highway department said large boulders have covered the roadway.

They believe this is due to a rockslide.

Drivers should seek an alternate route until further notice by county officials.
