“Walk to Fight Epilepsy” held in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – A group of Chattanoogans wants to raise awareness about epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee held its second annual “Walk to Fight Epilepsy” this afternoon.

Dozens came out to the event wearing purple for the cause.

Organizers say one in 50 kids has the disorder in this area.

“There’s over 40 kinds of seizures, some some seizures that people may not… I could freeze for a few seconds. I could be having a seizure and people wouldn’t realize that. They think you get distracted. So it’s good to be more visible, because people don’t know what a seizure is, what epilepsy is. They think it’s just convulsive shaking, and there’s so much more than that,” says Shawnessey Cargile who organized the walk.

Participants also used the walk to raise money for the foundation.
