Walker County announces resort development

LAFAYETTE, Ga. (WDEF) — A company is working to bring back a resort development that could bring thousands of jobs to the area.

State and local dignitaries and Scenic Land Company President Duane Horton recently announced the master plan for Lookout Mountain’s Canyon Ridge Resort.

They say the hotel, resort, and conference center will provide 2,000 construction jobs and 280 permanent jobs.

Phase I of the project is slated to cost approximately $106 million.

Horton expects the project to be fully funded by next year.

Walker County Sole Commissioner also spoke on the project. He said, “It’s going to bring tourists to our community.  It’s going to bring additional jobs for us.  The increase in jobs, the increase in sales tax is really going to be a tremendous benefit for walker county.”

Robert Ward is the Walker County Development Chairmen. Ward said, “To see the place where the facility is going to go, it’s very, it’s very exciting.”

The resort has been in the works since 2008, but due to a legal battle development efforts weren’t re-engaged until 2016.
