Walker County burn ban lifted

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — The residents of Walker County, Georgia can now legally burn once again.

The county said on Friday that they have lifted the burn ban. The board of commissioners approved a resolution Thursday night to rescind the ban.

Walker County does not require a burn permit for leaves and limbs between October 1 and April 30.

County officials issued the burn ban back in November while the area faced drought conditions.

There were several wildfires around the Tennessee Valley for the past few months, including one on Lookout Mountain in Walker County.

The county said they issued the ban because of “extremely dry conditions posed the threat of large, dangerous wildfires and created an environment for residential debris burns to escape and spread out of control.”
