Good News & Bad News about Walker County Courthouse after SUV crash

Probate Court will reopen next week, but front entrance closed off

LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF) – Walker County officials got both good news and bad news following a building inspection today of the courthouse.

The inspector was there because of the SUV crash into the ground floor over the weekend.

The Probate Court has been closed all week because of concern over the structural damage.

The engineer who took a look at the building on Thursday gave permission for the Court to reopen their offices on Wednesday of next week.

They will remain closed Monday and Tuesday. (You can still do business with them online or by phone- 706-638-2852)

However, the engineer did have some bad news, also.

County officials say “Due to the discovery of issues unrelated to the crash, the front entrance to the Courthouse will be closed until further notice.”

The side entrance on ground level will remain open.
