Walker County to hold Town Hall meeting over Workforce Housing Complex

WALKER COUNTY, Ga (WDEF) – Due to renewed interest and some inaccurate information being spread in the community about a proposed affordable workforce housing development, a town hall meeting is being held on Monday, September 13th.

The Gateway at Rossville project is a 156-unit family apartment complex on Happy Valley Road right across from Ridgeland Highschool.

The development will have set rental rates that are structured to be affordable for households in the $26,055 to $47,100 income range.

The development would consist of multiple three-story buildings to include 18 one-bedroom units, 90 two-bedroom units, and 48 three-bedroom units. In addition, there would be a covered pavilion, playground, computer center, exercise room, swimming pool, and dog park onsite.

Gateway anticipates those rates will be $760 for a one-bedroom, $910 for a two-bedroom, and $1,050 for a three-bedroom unit. Credit and criminal background checks will be performed on all prospective tenants.

Walker County Board of Commissioners invites the public to learn firsthand about this development from the company developer.

“There are a number of concerns that have been brought forward but traffic seems to be the thing that is resonating with the public. That is something the developer is working on with the county government. The county government is working with GDOT to come up with some ways that could address those concerns,” says Joe Legge, Walker County Spokesperson.

The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center and will also be live-streamed on the Walker County’s Facebook page.
