UPDATE: Deputy, Suspect Stable After Walker Co Shooting

Rossville, Ga. (WDEF) – The neighborhood where a police-involved shooting took place Monday night in Rossville is back to normal. There are still some pieces of crime tape around evidence of what happened last night.

Officials say the suspect, James Allen Johnson, lead police on a foot chase.

He is then suspected of pulling out a knife and stabbing the deputy three times. That is when the officer shot Johnson twice.

Both are in stable condition.

Neighbors say they are shocked something like this would happen here.

Rossville, Ga. (WDEF) – The GBI is still investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Rossville Monday night.

A Walker County deputy was stabbed three times, but that deputy was able to shoot the suspect and call for help.

The deputy involved is confirmed as Deputy J.D. Holland. The Walker County Sheriff tells us that Deputy Holland is surrounded by family as he recovers at Erlanger.

The suspect involved has been confirmed as 44 year old James Allen Johnson, who is also recovering at Erlanger in stable condition.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says Deputy Holland responded to a call of a suspicious person that was believed to be a man from a wanted poster.

When Deputy Holland approached the man at the scene (Johnson), he fled, leading the deputy on a foot chase.

Shortly after, officials say the deputy and suspect got into an altercation before Johnson pulled out a large hunting knife, stabbing the deputy three times.

Sheriff Wilson says that’s when the officer pulled out his service weapon and shot Johnson twice, once in the stomach and another time in the leg.

The Sheriff tells News 12 that he is grateful that the deputy was in good spirits, despite the circumstances.

During the time of confrontation, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says a deputy was stabbed three times by a suspect. The deputy then shot the suspect twice in the process.

Both, the deputy and the suspect, are being treated at Erlanger. The deputy has nasty stab wounds to the leg and arm, but are said to be non-life threatening.

The suspect’s condition in still unknown.

The GBI is still investigating.


ROSSVILLE, Ga. (WDEF) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Walker County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene right now of an apparent officer-involved shooting in Rossville.

It has been confirmed that Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson is at the hospital now with a deputy and another person. We’re not sure who was shot.

News 12 has a reporter on the scene of the incident right now.
