Walker Valley hires Red Bank’s Akins as new HC

BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Walker Valley Mustangs will have a brand new head football coach in the saddle next season.

Drew Akins accepted the job today. Akins has spent the last year leading Red Bank’s offense. Before his time with the Lions, he spent seven years on the Ooltewah coaching staff — three of those as offensive coordinator.

Akins is also the son of current Ringgold head coach Robert Akins.

“I think bringing a youthful energy, bringing some hope, those are the things I want to bring,” Drew Akins said. “I want to make sure the kids know that I want to be there and that I’m excited to be there. And those parents understand that I’m there to make their kids better. But the excitement that I’m going to bring to that program will be something that I think has been missing here for the past few years.”
