CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A critical intersection in downtown Chattanooga is closed off due to a major water main break.

At the intersection of Market Street and MLK Jr Boulevard, the Southbound Market Street and Westbound MLK Jr Boulevard sidewalk is closed.

Chattanooga Public Works crews and the Chattanooga Police Department officers are at the site. Tennessee American Water crews are in the process of shutting off necessary valves and to begin repairs.

Crews have been on site just before 8:00 Friday morning.

Tennessee American Water says the repair should take about 8-12 hours.

Only one customer has been affected by the water outage.

Chattanooga Department of Transportation warns everyone to avoid the area and take an alternate route.

Additional closures will be made. To stay on top of any announced closures, visit the CDOT’s map of events and road closures.
