Weekend traffic delays expected as I-24 East near I-75 closes for construction

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Drivers near the I-75 and I-24 interchange should prepare for major traffic changes this weekend due to ongoing roadwork.

As part of Phase 2 of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) project to widen and improve the interchange, crews will temporarily close a section of I-24 East near Exit 183 to connect new construction with the current roadway.

“Beginning Friday, June 27, 2025, at 9:00 pm ET and continuing through Monday, June 30, 2025, at 6:00 am ET, crews will temporarily reduce the 3 lanes of traffic on I-24 East,” said TDOT.

Motorists are urged to use alternate routes and avoid the area if possible, as significant delays are expected.

Drivers should follow posted signs and remain alert to traffic shifts.

The schedule is weather-dependent and may be delayed if conditions change.

Uniformed police officers will be on-site to help with traffic control and ensure safety.
