West Tennessee police officer charged with taking money from a child’s cancer fund

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a former police officer in western Tennessee has been arrested on theft charges.

A TBI statement says 34-year-old Guy Pryor was arrested last week on one count of theft over $10,000.

The statement says about $18,000 was stolen from a bank account established for a fundraising effort. Media outlets report the fund was for a 2-year-old child who died March 2 after a yearlong battle with cancer. The TBI says Pryor had established the bank account.

The TBI says Pryor worked until recently as a police officer in Martin. He was arrested Friday, taken to a detention center in Glynn County, Georgia, and was awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
