Where the best doctors are

(WDEF) – How is our area for the number and quality of doctors?

A new listing by WalletHub shows the southeast isn’t on the best or worst list for states in the U.S.

The best state is Montana while the worst is New York.

(TN: 18, NC: 19, AL: 21, GA: 22)

“Montana is the best state for doctors, thanks to its highly-rated hospital systems and high annual incomes in practices such as anesthesiologists; psychiatrists; and surgeons. The Treasure State also enjoys a high percentage of medical residents who remain in-state and a low physician burnout rate.”

But some of the other findings may surprise you.

Louisiana has the highest annual salary for surgeons.

Nebraska has the lowest malpractice insurance rates.

Some other findings aren’t surprising.

Florida has the oldest population while Mississippi has the lowest number of physicians.

“Setting up a practice in one of the best states for doctors can have a profound effect on your medical career. Not only will you be working in top-quality medical facilities and earning high salaries, you’ll be less likely to burn out, and pay less for malpractice insurance. Meanwhile, residents living in one of the best states for doctors will have access to quality healthcare at a reasonable cost.”
