Whitfield County Budget Hearing

Dalton, GA (WDEF) Whitfield County Board of Commissioners meet Monday to go over the proposed budget for next year.

They’re in a tight spot with a huge deficit.

They’re proposing a tax increase, but not many people showed up for the public hearing today.

Commissioner Mike Babb says, "Next week at our December the 8th meeting, we will approve the budget. Between now and then we’ll have other internal discussions about the budget, make the decisions on whether or not we’re going to go with the 6 million dollar deficit or whether we’re going to make some drastic changes and try to pull that deficit on down lower than what it is today."

Commissioners hope citizens will pass a SPLOST fund in March.

That will help lessen the tax increase.
