Whitfield County chooses the roll-back

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA. (WDEF) – Whitfield county voted to roll back their millage rate again this year.

Jevin Jensen, Commission chairman, said, “Our goal, number one, was to rollback the property tax so it would be less impact on the working class families, the middle class families, but all of our families and businesses across Whitfield county.”

Jensen is excited to put money back in the taxpayers pockets.

He said, “So we’ve done the rollback and we’ve exceeded the rollback for 4 years and that’s put over 12 million back in the pockets of the property owners of Whitfield county and that’s where it belongs.”

The board voted to rollback more than the suggested amount.

“We did a full rollback but we did a little bit more than that, than we are required to and we also eliminated a ten plus year old special tax district that was collecting additional tax on top of the regular property tax,” said Jensen.

The hope is this will save people money.

He said, “That should save several hundred dollars of most people’s property depending on the value of their property and it’s one of the largest tax reductions of this century, so the last 20 to 25 years.”

Jensen was happy to jump first at this and hope others will follow.

“We went first and we tried to set a good example. We told the taxpayers back in May that we were going to rollback at a minimum and we exceeded that. I’m proud of that and hope the schools will do the same,” said Jensen.

Millage rate for Whitefield county is now set to 6.0 mills.
