Whitfield deputy shoots bi-polar suspect

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood says one of his deputies shot a suspect overnight.

Officers were called to a home at 102 S. Adela Drive at 1:53 AM.

A woman said her husband was bi-polar, off his medication and acting very strange.

She said he was armed with a machete and hammer.

The Sheriff says when deputies got there, the man came out of the front door, aggressively waving an object at them.

They say he ignored their warnings to “drop it.”

One of the deputies then shot the man in the shoulder.

They say the man continued to fight them while EMT’s attempted to treat him.

He eventually was taken to Hamilton Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.

The Sheriff says that the G.B.I. is assisting with the investigation.
