Whitwell High Teacher Resigns After Admitting Inappropriate Interaction with 18-Year-Old Student

A first-year teacher at Whitwell High School has resigned after an investigation uncovered inappropriate interactions with an 18-year-old male student.

Marion County Superintendent Dr. Mark Griffith confirmed that school officials first became aware of the allegations late Thursday morning, around 11:30 a.m. According to Dr. Griffith, it was discovered that the teacher had sent explicit photos to the 18-year-old student, prompting an immediate response from the district.

“There was an interview with the teacher in question, during which she initially denied the accusations. However, as the investigation continued, she admitted to having the inappropriate exchange with the 18-year-old student. At that point, she resigned on the spot and was escorted to her vehicle, then departed the campus, said Dr. Mark Griffith, Marion County Director of Schools”.

The incident has shocked both the local community and school district officials

“It’s a sad situation. I know all the families involved, and their dear families and good friends. It’s very sad to have to be sitting here conducting this interview, especially for one of my former employees. But, you know, it’s just one of those things. As I said earlier, common sense goes a long way. Ultimately, common sense was not used in this situation, and it’s going to have a lasting effect on all parties involved,” said Dr. Mark Griffith.

Authorities are continuing to look into the situation, and the district says it’s working closely with law enforcement.
