After emerging from the portal, Mocs head football coach Rusty Wright had the true answers on the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Said Wright:”It’s a data base. Basically that’s all it is. But transfer portal seems to be the name that has stuck. You see people go well so-and-so has entered the portal today. You’re like, where did he go? I mean he’s still in the date base. He hasn’t went anywhere. He’s still there. You can go on there and see. Not just division one or FCS or FBS, but it’s division three. division two. And it’s all sports. As of the 10th or 15th of January, they’re about 17-hundred or 18-hundred football players across the country at all levels in it. Just because you enter that thing, does not mean somebody is going to pick you up and let you go play somewhere. You still have to get into grad school. You still have to do all those things you have to do along the way to be eligible. It’s not as easy as everybody is making it out to be, and kids are finding that out too because once you enter it, there ain’t a whole lot of times you come back either.”
