__________
LOOKOUT VALLEY, Tennessee (WDEF) – I-24 has been snarled since after noon by a chicken truck wreck near Lookout Valley.
Chattanooga firefighters report the 18 wheeler clipped a guardrail and flipped in the median.
Witnesses called first responders and tried to get the driver out of his cab. But they failed.
Firefighters are having to extricate him. They report the driver is injured, but they don’t know how badly yet.
The wreck was more severe on his passengers.
Most of the chickens were killed and scattered all over the interstate. A few did survive. Officials are waiting for the company to send a team to round up the survivors and clean the scene.
The wreck completely shutdown traffic coming from Nashville and greatly slowed out-going traffic.
Traffic is backed up from the ridgecut to past the I-59 intersection. And alternative side roads are also clogged.
______
And just a few miles down the interstate, another incident has also blocked east bound traffic.
Dade County reports a motorhome caught fire under the Wildwood exit overpass.
No one was hurt, but a woman is being checked out at the scene.
