15th annual Hamilton County Minority Health Fair draws crowd
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Around 5,500 people showed up for the 15th annual Hamilton County Minority Health Fair today.
The event offered a variety of free screenings, mammograms, lab testing, blood pressure checks, health education and more at the Eastgate Town Center.
There were a total of 115 vendors at the fair.
Chris Ramsey who helped organize the event says when people think of minority they often think of ethnicity, but he says they consider people who do not have access to these services a minority.
He also adds that often Latinos and African Americans are sometimes at a higher risk when it comes to certain cancers and diseases.
“We want to really educate and empower every that walks through this door about taking good care of yourself, but also once you leave here how do you get plugged into the health system going forward,” Ramsey says.
Last year the event drew out a crowd as well.
