Volunteers Clean Up Site for Veterans Resource Center

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Area veterans will soon have another place to turn to when they leave the military.

Dozens of volunteers continue to clean up the site on East 11th Street.

It’s the future home of the Chattanooga Unite Veterans Resource Center.

They’ve been working on clearing the property since late August.

The center will be used to help vets with transitional housing and on-site counseling, among other things.

U.S. Navy Retired Captain Mickey McCamish says he looks forward to reaching out to more local veterans like himself.

“What we’re doing is we’re going out when they come off of active duty, and this will be a place to make that transition back into the community, so we’ll bring stability to the life of the veteran, and help them then become a part of the community,” McCamish said.

McCamish tells News 12 they’ll still have to maintain the site until construction begins within a year-and-a-half.
