Ironman Brings in Millions to Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Not only is Chattanooga excited to host the Ironman race again Sunday morning, local officials are also looking forward to the positive economic impact.

Bob Doak, President and CEO of the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau, tells News 12 the event is expected to bring in $12 million to Hamilton County.

That’s because 10,000 people are expected to travel to the Scenic City to support participants.

Doak says the CVB believes money spent this year will be five percent higher than last year.

“They bring their families to cheer them on, families get to enjoy our great attractions, our restaurants, they continue to shop. It’s really a great time of celebration and some personal success stories to be able to accomplish 140 miles,” Doak said.

Chattanooga has been hosting the Ironman event since 2014, and will continue to do so through 2018.

Doak says we’ll see four races here next year, something no other city has done.
